Persona 3 - The Movie

For the past few days the world of gaming news has basically been about one thing; the Xbox One. Scam sites have opened up claiming they are sign ups to help test the Xbox One, rumors about how it will handle used games have been popping up left and right, minor details about some of the games we could expect are showing up, and we have learned that the Xbox One will apparently check to make sure you have an internet connection at least once each day. Really if you go to any gaming website right now, or even Xbox.com, this is what you'll be hearing about. So, instead of truly reporting on the Xbox One, I decided to switch gears for a moment.

Today I wanted to take a step back, and talk about something completely different. I want to talk about a movie for a game that was released on the PlayStation 2. Now I'm sure if you're a die hard fan of the series you already know about it, but if you've just played the games there is a chance that this will be new news to you. So, what game am I talking about? Well, none other than Persona 3!

After playing through the game recently, and after talking about it quite a bit with another fellow Game Room writer (Lugia), it got me thinking. We are always posting game reviews here on the blogs, or talking about gaming news, but its just flat out rare for us to ever discuss a video game that is becoming an anime, or to discuss movie versions of said games. Since not too long ago I just posted a Persona 4 Golden review, I figured the timing would be right to bring you guys up to speed on this as well.

If you don't already know, Persona 3 is a JRPG which was released on the PlayStation 2. It mixes visual novel life sim elements with dungeon crawling gameplay, and is one of the few RPGs out there that really pulled players into the game. It made it feel like you were a part of the world, and that you were truly living the game. Due to its gameplay, and story, Persona 3 became one of the most well known RPGs out there, and finally after all these years it is getting an anime movie; or rather, a few anime movies.

Check out the trailer for "Movie 1"

(Warning: Persona 3 is an M rated game, and the following trailer may contain content not suitable for all ages.)

Now currently not much is known about the films, but each one seems to be dedicated to different parts of the story. Persona 3 took place over a year, and with the first movie being called "Spring of Rebirth," it is pretty clear that it will at least cover Spring. Other than that, we do know that the main character's name has been changed as well. Originally the main character wasn't given an official name, but when the manga came out he was dubbed "Minato Arisato;" however it seems this will be changed. His new name will now be "Makoto Yuki."

Although details are still limited, every full moon the movie's official twitter is updated with details about the movie. Over the summer more information will be revealed, and in the fall the movie will finally hit theaters in Japan. While no US release date has been announced, it is pretty safe to assume that we will get it one day.

Kingdom Hearts 1.5 HD Coming to the West!

Well I've got some good news for you Kingdom Hearts fans out there! I'm sure most of you have already read Leaf's post about Kingdom Hearts X, but did you also know that Kingdom Hearts 1.5 HD will be coming to the west as well? Yep that's right! The game will be released next fall in both the US and EU regions, and will be a PlayStation 3 exclusive!

The game features both Kingdom Hearts 1 and Re: Chain of Memories remastered in HD, but with some new features as well. Although Re: Chain of Memories will be mostly unchanged, Kingdom Hearts 1 is getting a massive update, and will include quite a few new features! First of all the game will actually be the Final Mix version of Kingdom Hearts which was only released in Japan. This means the game will have new boss battles, new cutscenes, as well as rerecorded voice work; however that isn't all! Kingdom Hearts 1 has also been updated to the Kingdom Hearts 2 standards, meaning the game will feature the Kingdom Hearts 2 style of play, and camera control! Reaction commands have been added into the game, and the core gameplay has been improved to keep up with today's standards.

On top of all of that, Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days will also be included in the form of a MOVIE which will actually be around 3 hours long (2:50 to be exact). Although this isn't the HD remake of the game some fans may have hoped for, it is a retelling of the game with brand new scenes to deepen the story. The games will also support trophies (which is a standard for PlayStation 3 games now days) as well.

Although we don't have an official release date for the game (as I said before), we do know that the game will be coming out fall of 2013, with Kingdom Hearts 2.5 HD most likely coming out next year.

Breaking Bad's Aaron Paul lead actor in upcoming Need for Speed Movie

Don't worry guys, I haven't forgotten what I said in my last post about how I found some things in my house, but that'll still have to wait. Anyway I do have some good news to share!

As some of you may have heard, DreamWorks is actually creating a Need for Speed movie based off of the "Need for Speed" video game series. Over the years, Need for Speed games have mixed high speed action arcade racing, with open world exploration, and online multiplayer, and it is normally all tied together with some kind of story. From being an undercover cop in the underground racing world, to a street racer who decides to join an across country race as he runs for his life, Need for Speed has covered many different stories over the years, and it is only natural that a movie would be made of it one day.

Well anyway, details on the movie are still currently limited, but it turns out the lead actor will be someone a lot of you may know from the popular series Breaking Bad! Yep, Aaron Paul has signed on as the lead actor! Although Aaron has played many other smaller roles (for example he was in the "super hero" episode of Bones, and he was also the "psychic kid" in the juicy fruit gum ad quite a few years ago), he is the most well known for his role as Jesse Pinkman in Breaking Bad, which he has won two emmys for.

So, what do you guys think? Is Aaron Paul a good choice for the main character? Well, although we really don't know too much about the movie at this point, judging by his other works, he'll make a great main character. He's a very good actor, and I think it's nice to see him playing the lead.
